I love this jacket. It is so light that I assumed when I got it that it would not be very warm, but it is extremely warm! I got the XL - it is not cut so loose that cold air gets in, but it is loose enough to wear over a base layer like a light sweater. The arms are cut loose enough to fit over a long sleeved sweater or sweatshirt. The brushed outer surface makes it fine for wear in light rain or drizzle. Two zippered handwarmer pockets and a large media pocket on the chest. My favorite jacket. Absolutely comfortable down to and below freezing.
I brought this fleece jacket to keep me warm while working outside in the cold and rain and it worked very well. I did not get cold the entire time (several hours) I was working outside on my RV. This jacket may not be for extreme cold as in Mountain climbing in the middle of winter, but for working outside on your car or anything else it will keep you warm. If you are going to jog in this jacket you may get to warm unless your are in snow, etc.
This jacket is definitely traditional fleece, though it has a twist of greater quality. The feel is nice, but how someone would do anything but wear this jacket is beyond me. I say this because it is flexible but yet restrictive, especially if you were to wear something under it in a layered way, because then it becomes cumbersome to do any type of workout or motion demanding exercise.
I really liked the looks, but the feel of traditional fleece was just not my choice. Then, how it is considered to be extreme cold capable is perhaps because it is fleece and because of some technical jargon regarding the type of material. Whatever the case, I feel that UA has better offers that can be choosen over this one, which is just my opinion.
Try it. Maybe it will work for you. But for me, I had to return it and get something that would suit my personal taste and use.
I have many UA jackets. This one is not as "extreme" as I would have liked. I actually have a UA Tundra that is significantly higher performance in the wind and blows the "Extreme" Coldgear jacket away in the rain. The "Extreme" Coldgear jacket is just slightly warmer than a standard UA track jacket. The fit is also a bit odd for UA. I am 6' 2" at a 190lbs athletic buid and I found the XL size 2" too long arms and makes you look like you have a gut the way it bellows out in the middle. So not flattering looking and not "extremely" warm. If your looking for a warm jacket for temps under 50 degrees, look elsewhere. A puffy Turing coat is more suitable for cold weather. The Tundra is a much higher performance light weight water/wind proof cold weather jacket. As for the UA Extreme jacket??? I would pass on it but the quality and construction was top rate but actual design, sizing and warmth is just average.
